Five out of five award nominations!

EVM is delighted to announce that the company has been shortlisted in five categories at this year’s prestigious ‘UK Graphic Awards’ held in Manchester this October.

The UK Graphic Awards 2022 is an annual event to celebrate the absolute best of British wide-format printers who have delivered exceptional visual marketing and branding projects for their clients. EVM submitted five projects in a variety of award categories including Construction, Exhibitions, Leisure and Hospitality, Live Events, and Printed Signage.

We are thrilled that we have been shortlisted for all five of awards!

Exhibition Graphics – for Scotland biggest ever conference – COP26 in Glasgow

Our first award nomination is for the manufacture, print and installation of Exhibition Graphics at COP26, hosted at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow last year. This was one of the largest events ever to be held in Scotland and of global significance with 25,000 delegates from 200 countries and 120 heads of state attending.

EVM were chosen by leading experiential agency, Identity, to be their key large format print provider and installation partner at COP for our ability to print a range of environmentally friendly large format print materials, all of which were printed on our latest EFI large format LED curing industrial presses which uses 85% less energy than other comparable machines.

We are proud to be recognised for the successful management of print production, installation, and post event recycling of all venue branding at COP26, as well as the achievements and commitments we have made in becoming one the UK’s leading environmentally friendly and sustainable large format graphic providers.

Live Event – Branding and wayfinding for two international cycling events for British Cycling

In the Live Events category, EVM is shortlisted for our involvement as principal supplier of event branding and wayfinding for two major back-to-back international cycling events in Glasgow this year: the UCI Track Nations Cup at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and the UCI BMX Racing World Cup Championships at Scotland’s only National and Olympic-standard BMX track in Glasgow.

Our event graphics and stadium branding work were highly praised by our client British Cycling, for the high quality and innovative graphic treatments. The results were high-impact graphics and wayfinding signage, creating truly memorable events for spectators, athletes, and stakeholders.

Leisure and Hospitality – an immersive experience at The Macallan Estate Distillery

Our nomination in the Leisure and Hospitality Category highlights our work in immersive experiences, in this instance, supporting the product launch of an historic and exclusive limited-edition whisky, ‘The Reach’ – the oldest whisky that the Macallan Estate and Distillery, located in Moray, Scotland, has ever released. EVM worked closely with leading drinks branding and design agency, Contagious, to realise this remarkable experience.

A wide variety of materials and techniques were used in the production of this demanding project including mirrored surfaces, solid wood, direct to substrate printing, cut letter forms, and organic materials including barley. All of this was combined with a multi-media presentation and soundtrack specially commissioned for this project to create a rich and multi-sensory experience.

This challenging project enabled us to demonstrate our wide range of craftsmanship and in-house skills in large format printing and sign & display fabrication, all produced in our Glasgow based facilities and installed on site by our expert shop-fitting and signage installation teams.

Construction – for CALA Homes UK Rebrand

We are proud to be nominated for our involvement in the re-branding of Cala Homes, one the UK’s leading residential developers. EVM rebranded 22 construction sites in Scotland and our brief was to install newly branded external signage at 15 existing developments and 7 new sites incorporating the new CALA identity. This project illustrates our technical capabilities and skills in direct to substrate printing and sign making using a wide range of materials including aluminium, fabric, acrylic and vinyl.

The project was far reaching in scope and involved the production and installation of over 30 different sign types, and a total of 270 individual signs, manufactured in-house by EVM and installed between January and July 2022. All signage and graphics were installed by EVM’s in-house installation teams who worked around the clock to ensure tight deadlines and timescales were met, to achieve maximum impact for the newly launched brand identity. EVM’s significant print capacity and finishing capabilities ensured that the project was delivered on time and on budget.

Printed Signage – the ‘Smartie Tube’ – walkway in the sky, Glasgow

One of the most challenging large format graphic installations undertaken by EVM in the past year has been nominated for an award in the Printed Signage category at the UK Large Format Awards.

The covered pedestrian walkway, known locally as ‘The Smartie Tube’, spans the busy Clydeside Expressway in Glasgow and links the SEC Campus in Glasgow to the Finnieston area of the City and is used by thousands of people visiting the SEC and local residents around the clock.

EVM was commissioned to ‘refresh’ the walkway by the SEC Campus and Glasgow City Council (GCC) in preparation for COP26 taking place in Glasgow in November 2021. Artwork for the design was provided by Glasgow City Council, based on an original design by Glasgow design agency, Tangent Graphic.

Built in 1985, and showing its age, EVM carried out extensive material testing both internally and externally on the walkway glazing over a six-week period to identify materials best suited to the challenging surfaces and exposed conditions.

Close collaboration with the SEC Campus, Glasgow City Council and Network Rail resulted in a plan that allowed EVM to access the tunnel from the motorway at night using high level access equipment. Installation was successfully achieved over a two-week period as a result of careful project management, and our highly experienced and dedicated installation crew, enabling us to deliver the completed the vinyl wrap despite difficult weather conditions, on time and on budget.

‘The Smartie Tube’ wrap was an enormous success and transformed the look and the feel of the walkway for COP26 delegates and city visitors, and no doubt delighted local pedestrians and motorists who use it daily. The project was featured in the national press and broadcast, numerous times during COP26, creating a high-impact visual presentation of the Glasgow City mantra: People Make Glasgow.

Our fingers and toes are crossed!

We do not often have time to reflect on the work we have produced. Our biggest goal is simply making sure our clients delighted with our work. On this occasion it’s nice to be able to take a little time to give ourselves a pat on the back for all our efforts of EVM’s amazing team of project managers, makers, and installers.

We can hardly wait to find out the results of the awards in October, but come-what-may, we are proud of the recognition that the UK Large Format Awards has given our work at EVM.

We congratulate all the Award nominees.
