Solar Reduction Film

Solar Reduction Film

For reducing the build-up of solar heat caused by sunlight hitting windows or glass, specially formulated Solar Reducing Window Film is used to mask glazed areas for from the effects of the sun. The original film design objective for Solar Reduction window films was to reduce solar heat and UV light transmission in order to effectively control the heating and cooling imbalances that result from solar loading. These films prevent the warming of the inside surfaces of glass that are exposed to direct sunlight while still allowing vision through the glass. As the window film concept was developed and improved upon, a demand developed for coloured sun control films that would complement architectural design. Today solar reduction films are available in a wide range of tinted colours including a mirrored finish, gold, silver, bronze or grey.

The efficiencies of solar control window films are closely related to local weather conditions, building orientation, window size, and other factors such as exterior shading conditions. However, with escalating energy costs, products such as window film are increasingly valuable as an investment for controlling interior temperature extremes in commercial and residential property and are regularly specified by architects and facility management providers.
